Anger Management

Family Dispute

We all feel angry from time to time, anger is a normal human emotion. When we are angry, the hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline are produced that cause our heart rate and blood pressure to rise. Our muscles feel tight, and our breathing may increase; we may feel flushed in the face like our minds could explode. Anger is a helpful emotion because it allows us to express negative emotions. It’s the actions we take when we are experiencing anger that can create problems. For example, expressing anger in ways that can upset other people or even yourself, such as shouting and throwing objects.

Do you think you might have problems managing your anger? If so, it may be helpful to reflect on the following.

  • When you experience anger, do you sometimes lose control of your behaviours?

  • Have you ever regretted a decision or behaviour you actioned while you were feeling angry?

  • Has your behaviour become violent and insulting when you were feeling angry?

  • Has your partner, family member or a friend made a remark to you about your behaviour when you were feeling angry?

If so, it might be beneficial to talk to someone about how to direct your anger more healthily. Lee Kennedy is a Psychologist in Essendon and can assist you through treatment by exploring on a deeper level, past and current triggers causing your anger and how we can break the vicious cycle of anger disrupting your life.
